Project Tracker 1.0 Beta Released

So here we have my first full open source application. I've released a few CFCs, but this is a whole 'nother story.

Project Tracker is somewhat of a clone of the Basecamp application created by 37signals. It is designed to let you manage and collaborate on your projects.

Some of the features include:

  • Post messages and comment with team members
  • Create to-do lists and items
  • Set milestones
  • Track issues and bugs
  • Share files with team members
  • Dashboard view of all current activity across projects
  • Integrated SVN browser and source viewer
  • Default and per-user styles
  • FCKeditor included for rich text editing
  • Avatars supported on CF8 (cfimage required)

This is an active project with improvements and fixes being made regularly. Please send me your suggestions!

p.s. there were some teeny tiny issues in the first zip that was downloaded by 3 people, so you may want to update. Nothing too critical unless you encounter something and I will be posting updates regularly.

Jordan Clark's Gravatar Outstanding work! You've built a really great tool that works very nicely, I definitely think you should win the WII

ziggy's Gravatar No mention of what to name the database or datasource in the install info.

ziggy's Gravatar what is the owner vs admin vs user who is an admin? (Or maybe I can go to basecamp and get help that will explain things?)

The commas near the people names are confusing. Seems the owner default name is "," Also, a + icon next to people indicates some action if you click, but doesn't, then comma, then name. I'm not sure if something not working or just looks awkward. I'd remove the commas to start.

I'm on bluedragon 7 - why do we need cf8 just to have avatars images?

Thanks. Should come in handy for my little office!

ziggy's Gravatar Changing the style color under admin doesn't appear to do anything.

I guess I should I post bugs on riaforge, no?

Joe Danziger's Gravatar I've updated the README to include info on the database setup. I also included some info on the roles.

I've also added support for avatars on Blue Dragon, and a note has been added to the style switch. I think you were editing the default user style as opposed to your own.

ziggy's Gravatar I don't see any changes or extra info.

How to add avatars also? No line for that in the add people dialogs.

>>Add an existing person

Shows a "," then a name. Like ", John".

Joe Danziger's Gravatar The zip was just updated this morning with those changes. Avatars can be added by the person, not by an admin.

ziggy's Gravatar I signed in as the admin user. I added a test user to a project. "People" on the project shows both the owner (the one I signed in with) and the test user but hitting edit on either one takes you to the same account page and edits the admin user, not the person I clicked on to edit, so how can you edit the other users you've created?

blow, joe (Owner)
x@x.com
[ edit ]
test, test (User)
[ edit / remove from project / make admin ]

ziggy's Gravatar If unclear, how can I give a new user I create a password so he can sign in? I can't edit his info because clicking edit goes to the wrong person.

Joe Danziger's Gravatar The code has been changed slightly. Users can only edit their own info. When you add a user, they will be emailed a password automatically along with a link to the site.

ziggy's Gravatar I see. Thanks. It's hard to know what's going on sometimes with no help file.

ziggy's Gravatar Oh, btw, if admin can't set the password then you need an email my forgotten password function.

Elisa Fando's Gravatar I'm not sure what the hold-up is...as said in http://www.dealderby.com maybe they have re-thought their stance on how this is going to actually make the company any money. Or perhaps their lawyers pointed out the liability of providing agents a platform to stick their feet in their mouth. Whatever it is, it's hardly something I'd claim as being "Well done".
